I am in firm belief they are old bookcase shelf supports. The reference included is the new style. Your item would have been mounted similar, but the screw would have when through the outer wall of the case. That is why the washer is so large. I would talk to an old time cabinet maker to clarify.

Thanks for the suggestion but obviously to accept I'd need a more specific answer. They may be shelf supports? I'll look into that.
