It's a 4WD TRANSFER CASE ADAPTER. It goes between the automatic transmission and the transfer case. The EXTENSION HOUSING (where the driveshaft comes out) is removed, and this goes on instead. The large hole in the side is where the speedometer cable drive gear goes. The little tube points upward and is a breather. The transfer case has a (shorter) extension housing on it that the driveshaft to the rear wheels goes in to. On the front of the transfer case is a driveshaft yoke that the front driveshaft attaches to.
